One of our first experiences with the beautiful Welling scenery was on the Red Rocks track, which started a mile from our house in Brooklyn and took us along the top of the mountains along the coast. The track ends at the Red Rocks beach where you can enjoy the beautiful beach and look out at all the seals gathered on the rocks.
In order to get to the trail we had to run up the hill from our house to the Brooklyn windmill, and while this windmill seems incredibly close to our house it was quite a trek. Normally when you get to the top of the hill you can lookout over the entire city, but due to the immense amount of fog visibility was low. We began our run along the trail at 7:30 in the morning and we were convinced that it would not take very long to complete. Throughout the duration of the run we were greeted by huge gusts of wind and the occasional burst of rain, tempting us to head back to the house. As we pushed on the fog still obscured our vision, but at times were were able to make out the coast far below us. As we neared the end of the trail the fog lifted and we were greeted by a stunning view of the coast. We made our way down to the bottom and ate our lunch, as we watched the waves crash against the rocks with some force. We had been running for a considerable amount of time and were just ready to go home. We decided to walk back along the coast and then up one of the main roads to our house, which took quite a but longer than we'd hoped. When we finally arrived back at our house I started to feel it in my legs just how much we had walked. The walk itself took us about 9 hours to do, but it was definitely a worthwhile experience.
