Today, Davis and I were ready and fired up to face off against the the formidable OBU third side team. The last time we met this team was a game to never forget. The first 10 seconds of the game exemplified the great American chemistry with Davis making a big hit on the first person with the ball and me following it up by collecting the ball and putting it under the post. The game ended at half with Poneke up 60 to nil.
We got a great break in the weather for the weekend, and it was looking like a good day for some good footy. The field was a short walk from the training grounds of the Wellington Hurricanes, the super rugby team based in the local area. Doesn't sound too cool, but for rugby enthusiasts, such as almost every Kiwi ever, this was like having a game next to the practice grounds for the NY Giants. It was pretty cool. We met up with the Poneke boys and started gearing up for the game, but were interrupted just to be told that the team forfeited the game. They didn't give us a heads up and we found out the day of. And here we were, disappointed that we couldn't get the chance to break the world record for most tries scored in one half. No worries, Saturday is a rugby day. The team stayed around on the field for about 45 mins playing around with the balls, kicking some mean drop goals, and watching the women's clubs play some fierce rugby.
It is a good chance for the team to recover and continue to build our strength. Also, a win is a win, so there will certainly be some cold ones down at the club room tonight.
